This position represents a sub-group of the Software Development team within Delta.  Specifically, this particular position will directly address our efforts to identify any current security gaps within our DataVine system, create processes for monitoring intrusions, and lead efforts to keep Delta’s development efforts in line with the latest in security best practices. The candidate will analyze a wide range of security issues at all levels of our proprietary system including architecture, firewalls, electronic data traffic, and network access. The engineer will be involved in the implementation of new security solutions, participate in the creation and or maintenance of policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures as well as conducting vulnerability audits and assessments.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Network Security: The security engineer will work with the database manager and our cloud lead on security policies and controls for the DataVine system’s cloud infrastructure. The engineer will be responsible for making sure our system is up to date with current industry best practices as well as keeping up with new vulnerabilities that impacts resources within our design.
  • Device Access Security: The security engineer will collaborate with the hardware team on security policies and controls for remote access to our networked devices. The engineer will be responsible for making sure our devices are up to date with current industry best practices as well as keeping up with new vulnerabilities that impacts the current design
  • Web Application Security: The security engineer will collaborate with the software development team on security policies and controls for DataScape and the Collection Engine. The engineer will be responsible for making sure our web applications are up to date with current industry best practices as well as keeping up with new vulnerabilities that impacts the current design
  • System Vulnerability Assessments/Penetration Testing: The security engineer will be responsible for coordinating and executing periodic vulnerability assessments and penetration tests on the DataVine system and determining where system flaws exist and what level of threat discovered flaws pose.
  • System Monitoring/Reporting: The security engineer will be responsible for creating a robust set of monitoring tools and reports for our DataVine system and maintaining them over each software and hardware iteration. A successful candidate will proactively find issues and break down the potential vulnerability of the system into easily digestible reporting.

Requirements

  • Education level and/or relevant experience(s): A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and three to four years of experience as a security engineer or four to five years of experience as a security engineer without a degree.
  • Technical & Data Skills: A deep understanding of Linux and Windows virtual machines. Strong knowledge of network, application, and database security best practices. Experience with intrusion detection, penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, system monitoring, and threat assessments. The candidate will also have familiarity with iterative software development processes, working with remote teams, and troubleshooting complex issues. A plus if the candidate is proficient in Python

Other

This particular position will liaise closely with Delta’s CTO, Director of Software Development, the software development team and our international development partners {as appropriate}. This position will specifically support all security related activities within our DataVine system. A successful candidate must work autonomously, accepting responsibility for key deliverables against an established timeline. The candidate will need to collaborate globally across a geographically diverse and distributed team.  A strong grasp on the software development process and cloud/network/application security are mandatory for a successful candidate.  A high degree of computer science technical competence is required.
